Batman takes on Superman in Smallville… it’s only taken 11 years!

June 13th, 2012 by Marc 1 Comment

While I must admit I lost touch with Smallville after the third season, not because it was bad; it just happened, I always dreamed of seeing this encounter…

Yes, despite waiting ten years for it to happen on the TV show, Smallville fans are finally going to witness Batman’s first encounter with Superman in the Smallville universe.
Remember when Smallville was meant to be a Batman series… ah, if only.
Yes, DC Comics have confirmed that the Dark Knight himself – and Robin it appears – is set to lock horns with the Man of Steel this September in the Smallville: Season 11 comic #5 and have given us this glorious peek (above).
“I feel like I’ve been sitting on a Christmas present for everyone since January,” series writer Bryan Q Miller wrote on his blog.
“Fans have been waiting for this for a VERY long time. As both a fan and a writer, I am more than pleased to announce the arrival of a MAJOR DC universe player in the second episode of Smallville Season 11.”
Digital Spy report that Batman will feature in a four-part storyline title ‘Detective’, in which his hunt for his parents’ killer puts him on a collision course with Clark Kent.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….

I’m glad this is happening. I always thought that the batman’s film franchise refusal to let Bruce Wayne appear in Smallville as the worst kind of arrogance. DC comics owns both Superman and Batman so the question as to whether Batman should have appeared should have been up to DC comics.
