Marvel Comics has confirmed its intention to relaunch several titles under new creative teams following Avengers vs X-Men, reports Entertainment Weekly.

As rumoured earlier this week, Jonathan Hickman will move to a new, twice-monthly Avengers series following the conclusion of his Fantastic Four run. Artist Jerome Opena will join him on the title.

Brian Michael Bendis will write All-New X-Men alongside artist Stuart Immonen in a title which sees the five original mutant teammates brought to the present from the past.

“It’s the one thing X-Men fans have always asked for is: They want Jean Grey back,” said Bendis on the fan favourite character’s imminent return.

“But they want Jean Grey. Not reincarnated Jean, or the ghost of Jean. Well, you’re getting Jean back. And Jean is gonna be looking at a world that rattles her.”

Rick Remender and John Cassaday will team on Uncanny Avengers, which will star Avengers and X-Men including Captain America, Wolverine, Thor and Havok, who go up against a revived Red Skull in the first arc.

Remender said: “It has a natural purpose for existing after AvX, where we can focus on human-mutant relations. The broad strokes are: Captain America comes out of AvX and recognizes that he hasn’t done enough to help the mutants.”

“It’s not hype when we say that AvX is the culmination of a lot of stories we’ve done over the last several years,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso added.

“Characters are redeemed or not. Characters are changed. The X-Men and the Avengers are both repositioned for the future. What better time to shake things up?”

An image showing 13 of the key players – including Susan Storm, Rocket Raccoon, Nova and Spider-Man – was published with the article.

The new titles will be rolled out slowly between October and February of next year.
