Get ready for the new daily show

FTN Blog 2012 EP5

Wow, what a weekend. After months of waiting, Heroes and Legends arrived at W5 in Belfast for three days and lived up to all the hype.

I’m not going to go into what happened over the three day event as you can read about it here, but what I would like to do is thank a number of people.

Firstly, the actors and artists who arrived from around the globe. Terminator star Michael Biehn, the sixth Doctor (Who), Colin Baker, the man behind Darth Vader’s helmet, Brian Muir, Babylon 5 stars Claudia Christian and Patricia Tallman, and finally, my absolute favourite person for the whole weekend, Bond babe Caroline Munro (Naomi from The Spy Who Loved Me), were all how we expected them to be. Kind, generous and just a little bit quirky at times. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with them.

The guys from the Emerald Garrison, who helped construct the wonderful sets and dressed up as our favourite movie characters, must be praised for the work they put in. They are also the nicest people you could meet. In fact, they made us Nerds feel very welcome thoughout the three days. A lot of that must also go to Garrison chief Martin Ryan who has supported FTN from day one (as you can see below) and was always on hand if we needed anything. Thank you Martin.

Adrian Lutton, from W5, and all his staff were also a pleasure to work with. Again, like Martin, Adrian was on hand if ever we needed anything and it was great to see his relieved face at the end of Sunday knowing that all had gone well and they had hit the visitors number they were hoping for – 10,000+ in fact!

Lastly, the fans who arrived throughout the three days made the whole occasion magnificent. We especially loved hosting the Cosplay competition on Sunday. What a wonderful crowd they were. Again, it was a pleasure.

Oh, and finally my fellow FTN’ers. Marc, Kenny, Rob, Paddy, Phil and Ruth…..it was great to cover this event with you guys and I can’t wait until the next one.

Until then….

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
