24-year-old man kills 12 and injures 50 at Dark Knight Rises screening in Aurora, Colorado

July 20th, 2012 by Marc 1 Comment

It’s a dark day when we at FTN have to report horrifying news that overlaps into the things we are passionate about.

From the Daily Mail: A masked gunman broke into a Denver cinema (above) and shot dead at least 12 people and wounded 50 others during a late-night screening of the new Batman movie.
The man, identified by sources as James Holmes, 24, entered the mall in Aurora, Colorado dressed in black and wearing a gas mask and bullet-proof vest and opened fire at the showing of The Dark Knight Rises after setting off a smoke bomb.
Scores of victims are now fighting for their lives; the youngest is just three months old, and is believed to have been shot at blank point range in the back.

Now the press have ran with the idea that the man was wearing a gas mask much like Bane in the movie. Wether that was intentional or not is something we wouldn’t like to comment on but if a gas cannister was part of Holmes’ murderous plan then a mask was needed no matter what the movie.

Our thoughts are with all the people who were victims and our prayers are with them.

Here’s a video of the chaos after the event. Not graphic.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
