Avengers sequel could be ‘more personal’

SFX, via Digital Spy, have bagged an interview with Avengers director Joss Whedon to talk his new film as well as a potential sequel.

The Firefly creator says he wants to know what makes his Marvel characters tick, and subsequently what will excite the fans.

“I want to know what makes them tick, what makes them flawed, what makes them fight – and ultimately, what makes them awesome,” Whedon said of his superhero team. “I go to these movies for those moments when the heroes define themselves, either through action or deliciously overwritten speeches.”

Asked how a sequel could be bigger and better, he said: “By not trying to. By being smaller. More personal, more painful… By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself.”

Avengers Assemble stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson. It is released in the UK on April 26 and in the United States on May 4.

Hi all. I'm Bash, I'm 33, and I became a nerd when I first saw Star Wars as a child. Although I've watched hundreds of movies, read dozens of books and played numerous computer games since, nothing has come close to seeing George Lucas' epic for the very first time. At Following the Nerd, I'm Marc's right hand man and can be heard every Thursday trying to be funny on our radio show. I hope you all like the site and come back often.
