When Mattel, or Matty as they liked to be called in collector circles, announced last year that they had the rights to Back To The Future toys, I’ll not lie to you, I dreamt of Marty and Doc 8inch action figures, standing beside an in-scale DeLorean time machine, with maybe Biff standing menacingly in the background, slightly larger and all in scale with My Matty Ghostbuster figures… finally, Doc Brown and Egon Spengler together in one scene… oh the possiblilities… sigh.
Anyway, I digress. However, even with the success Matty had with their superb 1:1 scale Ghostbusters props (a PKE Meter and Trap), I never for a second thought they would open the Back To The Future toy market with this: A 1:1 scale Hoverboard that works… yes! It really floats! how cool is that?!
Well, sort of. The Press Release states:
Back to the Future Hover Board: Finally! This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces (does not actually “hover” — check back in 2015 for that feature). We’ll be taking orders for it March 1 — March 20, 2012, and the final product will be shipped around November/December 2012. Because this is such a high-cost item, there will be a minimum number of orders required to go into production. If we don’t receive the minimum orders, won’t go into production and customers will not be charged. The price will be announced later this month (Note: Hover board does not work on water.)
So, how much do we anticipate the cost to be? Well, we’d imagine a ball park of $200 but honestly we’ve no idea… all we know is we really want one. And tell us that, after watching the clip below, you don’t too.
Anyway, Matty haven’t opened their pre-orders yet, but when they do you’ll find them here and don’t worry, we’ll tell you when they are taking them. But only AFTER we place our orders. Snort.
All together now… ‘Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, Mc Fly!’
