Bryan Singer tweets that Quicksilver is in X-Men: Days of Future Past!

May 23rd, 2013 by Edwin Torres Jr Comments

Director Bryan Singer has just  revealed, via his Twitter , that Evan Peters has joined the cast of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past in the role of Magneto’s son, Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver. This is surprising news, given the confirmation from Joss Whedon that Quicksilver and his sister, Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, both have roles in his Avengers 2.

The news also arrives following confirmation this morning with Saoirse Ronan telling The Mary Sue, she is interested in taking on the Scarlet Witch role in the Avengers 2, . The actress is said to be the basis for Whedon’s take on the character.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been quoted as saying:

“We both have them, there’s a specific arrangement with those two characters that would allow us to use them with Avengers, but not discuss or reference their mutant or Magneto-related lineage. They can use them as mutants and as Magneto’s relatives, but cannot have anything to do with ‘The Avengers.”

“The film will be based on the comic book storyline “Days of Future Past,” which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel’s mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.”

Singer has managed to gather an impressive cast which also includes Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing and Boo Boo Stewart.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to be released in theaters on July 18, 2014.

Avengers 2 is scheduled for release on May 1, 2015 and, while uncertain, the possibility does exist for a potential collaboration between 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney Pictures.

Singer does mention Quicksilver’s Avengers connection in his tweet.

What do you think of this? Is this a hint of a studio team up or is Fox just trying to beat Marvel to the punch?

UPDATE: Singer has tweeted his message again and took out the Avenger part!
