Charlie Sheen’s close encounter with Spider-Man role

September 2nd, 2012 by bash No Comments

Anger Management star Charlie Sheen almost played Peter Parker in a big screen adaptation of our favourite webslinger.

Who says so? Well, the actor himself, if he is to be believed.

Appearing on Jay Mohr’s new podcast Mohr Stories, Sheen described the circumstances that nearly led to him donning the iconic red and blue costume well before Tobey Maguire famously took the role.

He said: “I had an office at Orion at the time, and I brought them Spider-Man. I said, ‘Look, in a couple of years, I’ll be too old to play Peter Parker.’ And they said, ‘Yeah, we’re just thinking that cartoons are not the future, comic books are not the future.’ And I said, ‘But it’s Spider-Man, I’m perfect.’ And they were like, ‘Nah, we’re gonna wait.’”

Sheen admits that he hadn’t yet acquired the rights – though he “had a guy in [his] pocket who was going to get them.”

So there you have it. Would you have liked to have seen Charlie Sheen as Spider-Man or is it too ridiculous to comprehend? As ever, let us know your thoughts.

Hi all. I'm Bash, I'm 33, and I became a nerd when I first saw Star Wars as a child. Although I've watched hundreds of movies, read dozens of books and played numerous computer games since, nothing has come close to seeing George Lucas' epic for the very first time. At Following the Nerd, I'm Marc's right hand man and can be heard every Thursday trying to be funny on our radio show. I hope you all like the site and come back often.
