DC release casting news and pics from animated The Dark Knight Returns

May 24th, 2012 by Marc Comments

Arguably one of the greatest comics of all time, not just the greatest Batman comic, The Dark Knight Returns is the next animated movie from DC. And if it’s as good as Year One then we are in for a dark, thrilling treat.

The story, written by Frank Miller, chronicles Batman/Bruce Wayne in his later years. He’s bitter, twisted and out to cleanup what he left behind in Gotham City. It’s an epic story. Now we have had confirmation of some of the main characters. The Caped Crusader will be voiced by Robocop himself, Peter Weller. Weller has been having a renewed period of popularity recently having been in Dexter and directing House.
Modern Family’s Ariel Winter will play Robin, Prison Break’s Wade Williams will voice Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Michael McKean will play Dr. Wolper. Still no word of the rest of the rogues gallery or the Man of Steel, but to be honest, theyhad us at Weller.
Jay Oliva, who storyboarded Zack Snyder’s upcoming Man of Steel, will direct from a script by Bob Goodman. It ill be released in two parts (imaginatively titled Part one and Part two) the first part will be released this fall and the secone in 2012 from DC Comics Premiere Movie brand.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
