Evangeline Lilly will be playing Tauriel in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, a character that was created just for the movies. Total Film got a chance to speak with the actress about playing the relatively young Elf, and from the sounds of things she’ll be the type of Elf we really haven’t seen in Middle-earth yet:
“She’s a very, very young elf, she’s only 600 years old, unlike Legolas who’s like, 1,900 years old and Thranduil who’s about 3,000 years old. She doesn’t have quite the wisdom and pose that those two boys do; she’s a little more… gritty. A little more spontaneous, passionate perhaps. To play this character I need to have a certain amount of grace,” said Lilly. “But I’m also supposed to be an absolutely ruthless, deadly killer.”
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaughits theaters on December 13 of this year while The Hobbit: There and Back Again concludes Jackson’s second Tolkien trilogy on December 17, 2014.
