First good look at Darth Maul in Clone Wars…

February 11th, 2012 by Marc Comments

Well, here it is… the first clip of Darth Maul where we actually get a look at him properly. It seems that, just as Savage was told last season, his brother Maul is living in what looks like a junk yard and is certainly in exile.

Is that a body on the fire? And just how bloodcurdling was that scream?!

We like the look of this but really feel it may be pushing the darkness too much, although it is difficult to tell for sure. Also, after seeing Phantom Menace again it will take a lot of explaining as to why exactly he’s alive and kicking.

Supervising Director of the Clone Wars, Dave Filoni had this to say on the clip:  “He’s suffered through a lot to keep himself alive.

“First of all, how does he survive getting cut in half? Plus, he fell! So there was a lot of jeopardy for that poor guy. He’s implemented the training of his master to keep himself alive.”

That’s all well and good but come the end of March when Maul appears and the season wraps up, we better have satisfactory answers. This is the first BIG continuity thing the animated show has tackled, it would be a shame if they fumbled the ball. But we’re quietly confident they can handle it. Oh, and if anyone’s interested, we’re pretty sure that’s Sam Witwer as Maul, having voiced Galen Marek in the Force Unleashed games and The Son in the last season of The Clone Wars, Witwer is no stranger to important SW characters.

Anyway… on to the clip (which is being screened before some showings of Episode I 3D in the US: AMC, Cinemark, and Regal theater chains, among others that feature National CineMedia’s First Look advertisements)

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
