FRIDAY FEELGOOD STORY 1: Zach Galifianakis does a good thing

May 24th, 2013 by Marc Comments

We must admit we do have a soft spot for Zach Galifianakis. Not really for his role as Alan in the Hangover trilogy but for his part as Ray in the awesome series Bored To Death.

And when we heard this story we just had to share it with you. At the premiere of The Hangover Part III this week, Galifianakis turned up with 87-year-old  Elizabeth ‘Mimi’ Haist.

Wait, who?

Mimi was a woman that Galifianakis met 18 years ago , long before his Hangover fame, at his local launderette. He lost contact with her, but learned later that she was homeless after leaving an abusive husband and found herself sleeping in the launderette and eventually ending up on the streets.

On hearing about this, Galifianakis tracked her down and bought her a one-bedroom apartment and pays her bills to this day. Oh and even more amazingly his friend, Renee Zellweger – yes THAT Renee Zellweger – did all the decor and apparently makes sure the fridge is stocked for her!

It’s not the first time Galifianakis has taken Mimi to a premiere – she also attended The Hangover Part II and Campaign ones – and, according to Yahoo!, she said about attending them: “I dress up nice and a friend helps me with my make-up. It’s fun, not something I’ve ever dreamed I’d experience. The limo takes me home afterwards.”

Galifianakis has said in a previous interview: “There’s more to life than being an actor in a Hollywood movie. I’m not going to adapt my life after that existence, where a lot of people do. And they get the publicist, and they get all that stuff, and it becomes them. I think it’s a stupid way to live your life. A really dumb way to live your life.”

We salute you, sir. You’ve made our friday 🙂
