We’re all excited for the return of Russell T Davies to Doctor Who and the prospect of him working on the upcoming 60th anniversary special is just so damned tantalising.
Will we see David Tennant in the episode? Are we getting another multi-Doctor event? We’re all hoping for a return to the magic that the show used to be before Chibnal took over as showrunner and now one of the former Doctors may have revealed a little too much about what we might be able to expect.
In a new interview Paul McGann, the Eighth incarnation of the Timelord, was asked if he was excited to see Davies back too, to which he replied: “I’m made up that it’s Russell T Davies who’s taken charge again because he really knows what he’s doing and there’s genuine love for it.
“You now, for Doctor Who. The only reason Doctor Who is, the reason it has survived and thrived for so long down the years is that people who have genuinely loved it have run it.
“Now it looks safe. Because clever people who love it are running it.”
But, interestingly, when asked if he would like to appear in the episode, he said that he fully expects to be invited back… along with all the surviving Doctor actors: “It’s my guess, that most of us who are still around will be asked to get involved, and that’s how it should be – because the fans like it that way.”
So, if he’s right, we could see Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker all appearing and David Bradley back as the first Doctor… while any combination of these would be exciting, if Davies can get the full set? Man, that would be something special.
Thoughts on this one, guys?
