FTN Blog 2012 Ep8 – I want to believe…

March 22nd, 2012 by bash Comments

Loads of books and graphic novels to read, as well as movies and TV shows to watch, and simply not enough time. Welcome to my world.

Yes, I’ve been trying to keep on top of things here at FTN HQ but it simply isn’t happening. While I’ve started writing retrospective reviews for our website (check out my Conan the Barbarian review and look out for Forrest Gump this week) I’ve also been trying to catch up with shows and movies that many of you nerds swear by, but I’ve been a little slow on catching up on.

As well as my Smallville love-in, I’ve just started watching season one of Fringe on my iphone. What a great programme so far with John Noble in top form. It will be interesting for me to go back and watch Return of the King and see his role as the rather hateful Denethor because Walter Bishop is such a lovable character. I’m about halfway through the first season and already it’s findings its feet. Marc assured me at the start that it would become less X-Filesy and he was right. Highly recommended.

Moviewise I watched The Iron Lady over the past week. While Margaret Thatcher is still a divisive figures across the UK (it’s over 20 years since she was in power) Meryl Streep’s performance as the former Prime Minister is undeniable. While the movie itself glosses over her reign in power, Streep grabs the part with both hands and produces a real tour de force performance.

One movie that came at me from leftfield this week was We Bought A Zoo. Starring Matt Damon, I took my daughter along to the cinema to watch what I thought would be a goofy family film about animals. How wrong was I! What a great film by the wonderful Cameron Crowe. Check out my review here:

Well, that’s it for this week. Nothing much else to say other than have a cracking weekend and I’ll speak to you all soon.

Hi all. I'm Bash and love anything and everything to do with Star Wars. Although I've watched hundreds of movies, read dozens of books and played numerous computer games from other genres and franchises since, nothing has come close to seeing George Lucas' epic for the very first time. I hope you all like the site and come back often.
