Ireland’s biggest ever convention hits W5 Belfast this week Friday 17th, Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th, with guests from TV, Film, Visual Effects and Comics, hosted by Following the Nerd and we’ve got x2 family passes to give away!

In just under a week Northern Ireland will have its first ever, large scale comic con…yes, we’re talking Heroes and Legends at W5, Odyssey Arena, Belfast.

FTN has been talking about this particular show for a while now but at last we can reveal specific details about what we can expect from an event that is the by-word for nerd utopia on these shores.

From the people that brought you Invasion Belfast, the Emerald Garrison, Heroes and Legends has secured 13 special guests that us fans will be able to chat to, get photographs with and generally salivate in front of!

We have Claudia Christian (Ivanova from Babylon 5), Kristian Nairn (Hodor from The Game of Thrones), Patricia Tallman (Barbara from Night of the Living Dead), Brian Muir (film sculptor and set builder on films such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Aliens), Colin Baker (the sixth Doctor Who), Jennifer Blanc-Biehn (actor/producer who has been involved in such shows as Dark Angel with Jessica Alba), Caroline Munro (actor who has starred in The Spy Who Loved Me with Roger Moore and many of the famous Hammer horror movies), PJ Holden (comic artist who has worked on  Robocop vs Terminator, 2000AD, Warhammer and Judge Dredd), Greg Maguire (visual effects artist on Avatar), Nick Roche (comic artist who has worked as artist/writer for IDW Publishing on Transformers), Jordie Bellaire (illustrator on Betrayal of The Planet of the Apes), Declan Shalvey (comic artist who is a rising star at Marvel Comics illustrating Thunderbolts and Captain America) and finally Hollywood actor Michael Biehn (star of Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss).

On top of this wonderful guest list, fans will be able to walk through some of the many movie sets that have been lovingly recreated, look at some of the amazing props and meet many of the characters from franchises such as Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, Transformers, Doctor Who, Star Trek, the Muppets, Back to the Future, Aliens and Batman. On top of that there will be a number of exhibitors selling merchandise including Forbidden Planet and Order Sirty Six.

While Following the Nerd was aiming to be there, front stage and centre, to cover this event for nerds across the world, we’ve gone one better. We were contacted by the organisers and asked would we like to become involved. Well, after sitting down and thinking about it, for all of one second, we said yes.

So what will we be doing? Well, we will be hosting the Q&A session which will be taking place three times a day over the three day event involving all of the participants. The times for these talks can be found here, but remember that seats will be limited so get there early. On top of that we will be mingling with fans, chatting to them about the event, taking some photographs for this site and also filming a little as well. So make sure you come over and say hi. We’ll be the guys in bright red tops with the FTN logo on front!

As if things couldn’t get any better, there will be the Irish premiere of The Victim, starring Michael and Jennifer Biehn. The screening will take place at the Movie House Cinema, Dublin Road on Friday, February 17, at 7pm. Michael and Jennifer will be in attendance with the Terminator star giving a guest talk beforehand. We have three pairs of tickets to give away and all you have to do is answer this simple question. Who directed Michael in The Terminator? Email your answers to before 12pm on the day of the screening.

So there you have it. At last this little island is getting a convention worthy of its name. And Following the Nerd will be there. We hope you will be to because this is one event that you won’t want to miss.

For more information on Heroes and Legends, as well as details about Friday’s screening keep an eye on this site, visit our Facebook page and check out

To win one of two family passes to Heroes & Legends courtesy of Following the Nerd, W5 and The Emerald Garrison, simply answer this question:

Colin Baker played The Doctor in the BBC TV show Doctor Who, but what do you call the blue phone box he travels through time & space in?

If you know the answer then post it below, with an email address that you can be contacted on or email us at

Winners will be contacted on Wednesday 15th Feb. All decisions are final. A family ticket comprises x2 ADULTS & x2 CHILDREN

Good luck! And we look forward to seeing you there!

The organisers asked that we don’t reveal too much until the show opens this friday… which is fair, so here’s a few tasters we took. Just to tease. How many can you guess? Click to enlarge…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
