FTN reviews Avengers vs X-Men #10

August 17th, 2012 by Christopher Williams Comments

This issue kicks into high gear off the bat as Cyclops invades the mystical city of K’un Lun to retrieve Hope from the Avengers. This issue is aptly titled The Beginning Of The End. That type of title usually entails a fall from grace and we get it here in the form of Emma Frost falling further and further into the darkness of the Phoenix Force.

A power the X-Men foolishly thought they could control is now controlling them with Emma diving headlong into the abyss. It also looks like Magneto and Xavier have seen enough.

Meanwhile Cyclops is tearing through K’un Lun just putting the hurt on any Avenger that gets in his way. Just when the Avengers thought they had the answer Cyclops seemed to be too powerful, but was he. Hope proved he was not as she channeled a force stronger than the Phoenix to send Cyclops away, but it does not look like he will be going away that easily.

AvX has really been heating up with the second and third acts and I’m loving it! The scene where Hope bests Cyclops caused me to drop my jaw and respond with a vocalized “Holy S*#t!” while I was sitting at my day job. For a series that started off so slow and fractured the writers at Marvel have really started to blow things wide open.

There wasn’t a whole lot going on in this book, but what we did get was more than enough to keep me enthralled. It looks like the Avengers have finally found the way to push back, and none too soon with only 2 issues left.

My biggest problem is that the next issue won’t be released for another month instead of the bi-weekly releases we’ve been getting. Can’t wait to find out what happens next.
