FTN reviews Doctor Who: The Burning Prince

October 5th, 2012 by Marc Comments

This Big Finish story sees a solo fifth Doctor caught in a political wedding which turns out to be slightly more than he bargains for.

Tegan and Nyssa are in Amsterdam but the Tardis deposits the Doctor on a ship where a arranged royal wedding is about to take place but there are those who don’t want to see it happen. Also on board is a creature that is kept behind a force shield which escapes resulting in crash landing onto a planet full of them.

As the survivors battle to stay alive things become slightly more complicated. In ways this takes elements from the fourth Doctor story The Androids of Tara but adds a brand new twist. It is very well performed by all, a character piece that holds the attention with gripping cliffhangers.

Peter Davison is in fine form allowing a companion free Doctor to take reign of the story. His blasé reaction to the usual accusations of being a spy etc are wonderful. Overall, a solid story that grips the listener. Nicely done.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
