FTN Toy review: Gentle Giant’s Jumbo Vintage See-Threepio (C-3PO)

Just arrived last week is Gentle Giant’s Jumbo Vintage See-Threepio (C-3PO). Advertised as “Just like when you were a kid… only bigger” these 12” figures have been digitally scanned from mint original Kenner 3 ¾” figures and reproduced to jumbo 12” tall replicas.

To be honest I’m not too sure what to make of these. In the packaging they look great, you get a real sense of nostalgia with the Vintage styled card, however outside of the packaging the plastic is wafer thin which is disappointing as these retail at £64.99.

As they have been scanned from original figures from way back in the 70’s there is very little articulation. The head rotates, as do the arms and legs – there is no super-articulation that you see on pretty much every Vintage figure released nowadays.

The vacuum formed clam shell is also made from very thin plastic and as result the bubbles tend to distort very easily.

If purchasing I recommend keeping them carded for display as they look fantastic in their packaging.

You can buy this figure from Order 66 Toys here

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
