FTN Tuesdays! Just how hot are Hot Toys’ Avengers?

April 10th, 2012 by Marc Comments

We do like Hot Toys range of 1/6th scale figures here at Order66ToyStore. In recent months they have brought us the very impressive Christopher Reeve Superman and Michael Keaton Batman, both of which came with a plethora of accessories and an uncanny resemblance to the actors who portrayed DC’s finest. The cool display boxes for both tie-in well the characters and simply ooze quality.
And with Marvel’s collection of Super Heroes due to hit cinema’s in a few weeks time, merchandise for the film is hitting stores harder then Thor’s Mjolnir Hammer. The Hasbro collection of 3 ¾” action figures have been available in store for a few weeks now and Funko’s cute range of plush toys are due in store this week.
Hot Toys specialise in high end collectibles figures with an attention to detail and range of accessories rivalled by none. And they are assembling their own team of Avengers with the announcements of 1/6th scale figures for Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Iron Man Mark VI and now Captain America.
A teaser pic released on their website in January showed a full team of Avengers including Hulk, which has created a buzz around the net with fans eager to see another of their favourite Super Heroes get the Hot Toys treatment.
The first Avenger to be released was Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. The movie-accurate collectible is based on the likeness of Samuel L. Jackson and features a highly detailed costume, weapons and accessories including trademark leather jacket, pistol, rocket launcher and silver suitcase with light-up Tesseract.
Hot Toy’s design team have done an amazing job sculpting the facial features and replicating the menacing expression, skin texture and scarred face of Nick Fury.
The second Avenger to be announced was Hawkeye, who made a brief appearance in Thor: The Mighty Avenger.
The movie-accurate collectible has 30 points of articulation and is based on the likeness of Jeremy Renner and comes with an array of interchangeable hands for posing in different positions including two for holding his bow and arrow.
Along with the bow comes 16 arrows, an arm-guard and a pair of removable sunglasses.
The face sculpt is incredible, the level of detail is remarkable – every wrinkle and strand of hair is beautifully sculpted. The costume looks superb too, the different fabrics, the highly detailed boots and buckles make this an excellant addition to the team.
Next on the list of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is Iron Man Mark VI. The movie-accurate collectible is based on the likeness of Robert Downey Jr. and is limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide.
The piece looks stunning but disappointingly the choice of accessories is lacking compared to the other figures available – an alternate Tony Stark head and a couple of interchangeable hands.
The Mark VI armour and light-up ARC reactor look great. The sculpt of Robert Downey Jr’s face is befitting to some of Hot Toys other fine work.
And finally, earlier this week Hot Toys announced a new Captain America 1/6th scale figure. The teaser image below was shown on their Facebook page, it will be interesting to see if there are many changes from The First Avenger other than the updated costume… stay tuned!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
