FTN WRAPS UP CHRISTMAS: Ten top gifts for the Nerd in your life. Part four: Toys and Gadgets

December 10th, 2012 by Marc Comments

Ok, it’s day 2 of our Christmas top 10 gifts for the Nerd in your life…

Our Toys & collectibles editor Saxon looks over the goodies available and picks out his ten favourites… Santa has a busy night ahead on the 24th…

X Rocket Daytona Pedestal Gaming Chair

For those who need to take their gaming one step further, the X Rocker Daytona is a stylish and comfortable gaming chair. Complete with a pedestal for swivel action, sub woofers and armrests this is the perfect gaget for any gaming fan.

Star Wars MTT Droid Carrier

Definitely one for the kids… and the big kids! Its the most iconic vehicle from Episode I; the Multi-Troop Transport Droid Carrier. It comes to life with 20 combat-ready droids and full action battle sounds, weaponry and motorised droid deployment. Kids will watch in amazement as the vehicle opens to reveal all the droids inside!

Retro Atari Games Console

A classic is reborn! The legendary gaming console Atari Flashback 3 has returned and with an amazing 60 built-in games it is sure to make anyone who grew up in the 80’s seriously nostalgic – it even comes with its 2 original style Atari controllers in a wonderful gift box. Why not show the kids what we grown up nerds had before Xboxes and Playstations?

Skyfall Wristwatch R/C Aston Martin

A great little stocking filler for any James Bond fan – young or old. The miniature DB5 makes its operator feel like 007 as its remote control is cleverly disguised as a wristwatch! As though it were straight from Q branch itself, the micro Aston Martin includes bright LED headlights and is very speedy! And if you’re a Bond fan and disappointed that this didn’t make the top spot, what are you going to do… eject me?

The Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters Figures

Perfect for any Bat-Fan, these highly detailed seven inch figures look excellent up on display! Choose from Batman, Bane, Catwoman and more! Or why not all? That way your Bat-obsessed loved one can collect the pieces which come with each figure in order to build an excellent fully working miniature of the bat-signal!

Transformers Prime Weaponisers

I love Transformers – it’s a car! It’s a robot! It’s a… Rubik’s cube! And over the years these ingenious toys just keep on getting better and better, just look at these Weaponisers! With Optimus and Bumblebee to choose from, you can transform your robot figure to a vehicle and then deploy their hidden weapons whilst in either mode!

Ted Moving Mouth Plush with Sound

Lets face it – Ted was the comedy film of the year, with its crude yet hilarious jokes and its amazing special effects. Now fans can have their very own Ted with these new plush toys – they come in a number of shapes and sizes but for me it has to be the moving mouth Ted that gets my vote. Squeeze his paw and Ted will utter a phrase from the movie – while his mouth actually opens and closes!

Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

The Wand Company have given us a chance to feel like the Doctor like never before with this excellent metal Sonic Screwdriver replica – which also works as a TV remote! Imagine the hours of joy on Christmas Day as you change channels or set the Sky + box to record The Snowman with the simple flick of a Sonic Screwdriver! Without a doubt this is the perfect gift for any Doctor Who fan this year.

Anything LEGO

I adore LEGO, it brings out some real creativity from children which most other toys just can’t do these days. A simple box of LEGO is awesome enough, but themed kits are even better! Imagine being able to re-create the Battle of Helms Deep from Lord of the Rings with little plastic Orcs, or building a brick by brick replica of the Quinjet from the Avengers! It gives kids so much enjoyment, as not only can they play with their new LEGO toy, they can also spend Christmas morning building it with their siblings, which promotes teamwork. For me, the toy Santa never delivered during my childhood was a LEGO replica of the Star Wars Millennium Falcon, so make sure your children get the opportunity to own such an awesome toy as LEGO this year!

Back to the Future Hoverboard

Come on – the big kids need something special under the tree this year, and with 2013 just around the corner we’re just two years away from flying cars, hydrating pizza and of course Hoverboards! Fortunately MattyCollector have had a head start on Mattel, and have given us a fully working (sort of) replica of the infamous board seen in Back to the Future, Part II. You may not be able to ride it, and the girlish packaging might put some collectors off, but it does hover inches from the ground and can float along just like in the movie! A great collectable, and while actual hoverboards may just be the stuff of science fiction, this is the stuff of dreams for a BTTF fan. Once again, MattyCollector knock it out of the park…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
