Grim discovery beneath famed Hollywood sign

January 18th, 2012 by Marc 1 Comment

A murder inquiry has been launched by Los Angeles police after two hikers stumbled across a severed human head under the famed Hollywood sign.

The head is believed to belong to an Armenian male in his 40s and was discovered in a bag by two women yesterday while they walked their dogs along the Hollywood Hills hiking trail.

After makeing the discovery the women alerted the Canyon Park rangers, who then called the police who believe the murder occured recently as the head has little sign of decay or animal bites.

Sergeant Mitzi Fierro told KCAL-TV: “Two of the dogs began to play with the bag and what appeared to be an object. While the dogs were playing with it, at some point the object came out of the bag and they discovered that it was a head — a severed head,”

Detectives from Los Angeles Police Robbery and Homicide Division are seeking help from the Los Angeles County coroner in order to identify the victim through dental records. The a search for additional remains is set to continue.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
