Hangover star Cooper as the elephant man

August 2nd, 2012 by Marc 1 Comment

Em, we’re not sure what to make of this news…

Although there is none of the make-up he will need for the role of the Elephant Man, Bradley Cooper is out to show he is more than a comedy actor by taking on the role of Joseph Merrick (below) whose body was ravaged by a disease leaving him severely deformed, earning him the nick name of Elephant Man.

Bradley is best known for his comedy roles in the Hangover movies as well as the new Face in the A-Team but this role at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts is a complete departure for him.
John Hurt broke our hearts in the movie version directed by David Lynch but does it look like Bradley is well on his way to doing the same?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….

He still looks perfectly sexy, just contorted. Like in the middle of a yawn, or trying to pronounce a difficult word. I give him credit for portraying a very different body than his own, it can just feel contrived when able-bodied people take on the “body of the other.” Did anyone see this performance?
