Has good sense finally won?! We think so after watching the E.T Blu-ray trailer

May 29th, 2012 by Marc 1 Comment

A few years ago, when everyone was still angry (!) at George Lucas for tinkering with the original Star Wars trilogy, Steven Spielberg made a simliar mistake with E.T but not, it seems, all is well again in the world.

Yes, remember the scene where government agents tried to capture E.T and, in the original version, they were armed? And then Steven Speilberg had the guns removed and replaced with walkie-talkies because he believed the original scene was a bit heavy-handed?
Well, below is the new blu-ray trailer and guess what? Yes, the guns are back! Does this mean uncle George will now  release original cuts of the Star Wars movies on blu-ray? Unlikely, but let’s enjoy this one for now…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….

I have the 3 disc special edition DVD that contains both the guns and the walkie talkie versions of the movie. While the transfer’s obviously not HD it was cleaned up very nicely, and there’s plenty of extras that they felt it necessary to add a 3rd disc. I’m just wondering if there’s anything more on the Blu Ray that would make it a worthwhile purchase, at the moment i don’t see me getting this.
