The Emerald Garrison’s annual Recruitment Drive took place last Saturday, January 28th, 2012 at the Forbidden Planet store, Ann Street, Belfast.

This year however had a twist, as the guys got a chance to show off  their new costumes to the public, a little taster of what’s to come from the Emerald Garrison at the Heroes and Legends event at W5, Belfast. In addition to Stormtroopers, Clones, a Tie Pilot, Boba Fett and a Republic Commando, they also had three Ghostbusters, Batman and the unforgettable Captain Jack Sparrow (this guy will be a huge crowd pleaser judging by the reactions on Saturday).

The public loved it!! And so did they. Forbidden Planet has been the Garrison’s first troop of the year and for quite some time, and there really couldn’t have a better opportunity to kick start the trooping year, it’s a shop all Garrison members know and love, and the guys at the store are always so excited to have us invade their staff room.

It was also a chance to promote the ImagineNation and Heroes & Legends Sci-Fi Convention, taking place Friday 17th to Sunday 19th at the W5 in the Odyssey Arena, Belfast. The first convention of its kind in Ireland, where dreams can become reality, Comic book characters become real life, and stars of the big screen can be seen wandering around beside the finest local Cosplayers. It will really be a weekend to remember! Also don’t forget we’re dressing up, so why dont you!!

As the event is the first of its kind here in Ireland, it’s only fitting that Following the Nerd have a big part to play too… and we do. All will be revealed soon.

Don’t forget that actor Michael Biehn, star of Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, The Rock, Tombstone and many, many others will be attending a special screening of his and his wife Jennifer Blanc-Biehn’s  new movie The Victim at Moviehouse Cinema, Dublin Road on Friday 17th February. For your chance to pre-book tickets for this once in a life-tie opportunity click here. We’ll see you there!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
