Hugh Jackman will of course be back as the Wolverine in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, making it the 7th time he’s been the character. He basically went straight from The Wolverine to Days of Future Past. Jackman recently spoke with Empire Magazine and said the film “will be, for X-Men, like The Avengers.”

When Jackman first found out the film was being done he thought he would just have a cameo part in the film. But after being sent an 8 page synopsis of the story, he was extremely impressed with both the story and his role in it:

“I was like, ‘Okay, this is a slam-dunk idea. This, actually, is phenomenal. I think this will be, for X-Men, like The Avengers.’ And I think it is…

I was a little frustrated because I was nearing the end of a 12-to-18 month physical odyssey and getting ready to have Christmas off – and lasagnas. And I’m, unfortunately, not as young as I was, so I have to start earlier and go for longer. So I was like, Okay, we gotta keep going.’ But I’m really excited about it, and I never thought in a million years I would play one character in seven movies.”

“The film will be based on the comic book storyline “Days of Future Past,” which ran in Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 back in 1981 during Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s run and introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel’s mutants that grew out of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants killing an important senator, leading to a future where all mutants are hunted by Sentinels.”

Singer has managed to gather an impressive cast which also includes James McAvoy, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Halle Berry, Shawn Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto and Evan Peters.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to be released in theaters on July 18, 2014.
