Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird has said that he WON’T be directing the next Star Wars movie.
Many fans have looked to the man behind films such as The Iron Giant and The Incredibles as a potential candidate to take over Episode VII.
However, chat amongst himself and other fans on Twitter in recent days saw him deny involvement with him all but confirming his role as director of another DIsney film, 1952.
Below is the conversation he had:
“@rsavenell: You are on people’s lists as top choice for Star Wars, yet haven’t confirmed. Please end this tease!” Not doing Star Wars.
“@ClarkGoble: tell me your next one is the new Star Wars!” Nope. A science fiction film. Not Star Wars.
“@GeoffBreedwell: You’re not doing EP7? Why not? You’re perfect for it!” Thanks. But the science fiction film I AM doing is gonna be cool.
Many people, including myself, thought that the 1952 project was a smokescreen for Episode VII, similar to Blue Harvest for Return of the Jedi, but now that seems wrong.
As for Star Wars: Episode VII, it will move forward with a screenplay by Michael Arndt and a director expected to be named soon.
