It looks like two sequels to Independence Day is on the cards.
According to Roland Emmerich, discussions are taking place between the leading actors from the first film and the studios to work on ID Forever – Part 1 and ID Forever – Part 2.
He told FilmStarts: “It’s a tough battle between the studio and the actors. But you have a right idea, which was quite unique, and it is therefore worth it to keep trying.”
Co-writer Dead Devlin, meanwhile, said both he and Emmerich watched the original film again as they worked on plans for the new movies.
“The thing that really hit me about the movie is how much love there is in it: between the characters; that the filmmakers had making it; that the cast had for each other. As we’re approaching a sequel we’re focusing on that aspect of it,” he told Total Film.
“Because I think that was really the key as to why it worked for everyone. It was lovable.”
The films will also be post converted into 3D even though Emmerich himself says he remains a “3D skeptic”.
