‘I’ll not do another Bourne Movie,’ says Matt Damon and here’s why…

October 11th, 2012 by Marc 1 Comment

Well, since Bourne Legacy wasn’t a total disaster – yes, we know wasn’t great – we thought there might be truth to the rumours that Matt Damon wanted to return…

However, TV and Movie News are reporting that it’s unlikely to happen and the word comes from Jason Bourne, Matt Damon, himself. Damon hasn’t seen Jeremy Renner’s Bourne Legacy yet and it seems that it’s for the same reasons he won’t be back to make another one: “…from what I understand, it kind of relives [“The Bourne Ultimatum”] from a different perspective. What that means, because they use our actors and characters, is that whatever they said [in ‘Legacy’] is true and so we’d have to acknowledge it in any Bourne movie that we’d do. And that makes it really tough. I don’t think we can do the ‘Dallas’ it-was-all-a-dream scenario. I don’t think the audience would go for that after they paid money to see a movie”.

We all know producer of the Bourne movies Frank Marshall had said he was optimistic that Damon and Renner would share an adventure, but it now seems unlikely, this goes along with the fact that Damon said after he completed The Bourne Ultimatum that unless Paul Greengrass returned he wouldn’t do another one.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….

That’s a shame, as the reason Damon and Greengrass came back for Ultimatum (the 3rd movie) was that they realised there was a reason for the character to come back, but after that they couldn’t see a reason for him to return for a 4th. If Legacy did anything, it opened up that world more and gave reasons for Damon to return as Bourne, as the scope of things got larger and showed that Treadstone was only the icing on the cake. If Bourne found out about that, you can bet he would want to make sure whatever programs were running, and whoever was running them, were stopped.
