Is Simon Pegg a hypocrite?

August 22nd, 2013 by Marc 8 Comments

Simon Pegg recently let fans who attended the official Star Trek convention at the Rio in Las Vegas know exactly what he thinks of them.

Speaking to the Huffington Post after attendees at the convention ranked Into Darkness as the worst Trek movie ever, he said: “It absolutely isn’t the worst ‘Star Trek’ movie, it’s asinine, you know? It’s ridiculous. And frustrating. To be subject to that level of sort of, like, crass f—ing ire, I just say f— you.

“I think it’s like when you tire of an indie band that you love because, suddenly, they get a number one single. You don’t necessarily start disliking their music, but you stop liking them because you’re pissed off that they’re famous.”

Ofcourse, this is the same ‘fan’ who slagged off George Lucas and the Star Wars prequels.

A few years back while doing the rounds for the release of ‘Tintin’, he was asked what he thought of the changes the creator made to the original films as well as his thoughts on the prequels.

“I haven’t bought them to be honest because I’m only interested in the first three and I don’t want to see them all ruined,” he said.

Ruined you say Mr Pegg? Well, true Star Wars fans may have faults with the prequels but we love them just as much.

For us fans of a galaxy far, far away, we say stick to Trek!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
