UPDATED: John C. Reilly has been offered a role in Guardians of the Galaxy? Also plenty of possible SPOILERS!

Iron Man is not in it. I just love this pic.

HitFix must have gotten their hands on a Guardians script or a good source (they don’t say) because they wrote an article outlining the current state of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. They go on to say that Captain America: The Winter Soldier screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been hired to do the final touch up on the script. They also report that Marvel nearly gave that task to Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce before deciding on Markus and McFeely.

One tidbit that’s not too spoilerish is that one of the most important figures in the movie will be a character that HitFix says Marvel has already offered to John C. Reilly to play the role. He is being called the Coulson of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The rest is SPOILERS so final warning!

Everyone in this film will have a connection of some sort to Thanos.

Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, is thought to be to be the Robert Downey Jr. of this franchise. Fast, funny, able to play emotional while still getting big laughs. (no pressure right?)

They confirm that Gamora (Zoë Saldaña) will be indeed be the adopted daughter of Thanos and will possess super strength and speed in addition to being a master of all fighting styles, especially the use of blades. Thanos actually wiped out her entire race as an infant and raised her to be a living weapon to use against his enemies. When she learned of these details she managed to break free of Thanos’ grasp.

Drax (Dave Bautista) will maintain his classic comic book origin as a reincarnated soul by Kronos. He will be able to fly, shoot cosmic blasts and will of course have super human strength and durability.

Rocket Raccoon will be a guard at The Keystone Quadrant, “an intergalactic asylum for the criminally insane.” His initial partner will be Wal Russ who, yes is a talking Walrus.

Yondu, played by Michael Rooker will actually be the film’s villain and a space pirate type the site claims.

Lee Pace’s role is currently unknown but HitFix says his character will be a villain before switching loyalties, and that his character is being looked at for possible spin-offs. They go on to speculate that he’s possibly could be playing Nova, Adam Warlock or even Captain Marvel!

Groot apparently comes to Earth, looking to experiment on humans but Nick Fury (Badass Samuel L. Jackson) talks him out of it.

That brings us back to Rhomann Dey role that was offered to John C. Reilly. I told you he was being compared to Coulson, but unlike Coulson, Rhomann Dey is the leader of his organization, the Nova Corps. He’s the human agent who serves as a go-between, keeping the Guardians in line and reporting to SHIELD about their activities. Rhomann Dey will apparently have a “peer” someone that’s a “liaison” between the Nova Corps and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The name of this character isn’t specified but Marvel is reportedly looking at such famous actors as Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe for the role.

In the comics, Rhomann Dey was the leader of the Nova Corps but was Xandaran not human. Once he was mortally wounded he flew to Earth and randomly chose Richard Rider as the new Nova transferring his power to him.

Well that’s a lot to process, let us know your thoughts. Remember none of this is confirmed.

Aintitcool are reporting that the John C Reilly rumour may be the real deal: “Our old friend Drew McWeeny (he’ll always be Moriarty to us) at Hitfix, is reporting that John C. Reilly has been offered a role as Rhomann Dey in the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY film, due out next summer. He hasn’t accepted it yet, and nobody is sure that he will as the role is described as, “a big commitment”.”
