Joss Whedon talks how Ultron will differ from the comics

August 21st, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher 2 Comments

For his Avengers sequel, Joss Whedon has picked one of their most persistent and deadly adversaries in Ultron.

Created by Hank Pym (Ant-Man) in the Marvel comics, Ultron is a self-aware robot who develops a lust for power. The visual appearance and powers of the character have varied, but his common abilities include: super-human strength, speed, stamina, durability, reflexes, flight, various offense weapons, mind control, a coma ray. Ultron also has a genius intellect, a capacity for creative intelligence and self-repair, superhuman cybernetic analytical capabilities, and the ability to process information and make calculations with superhuman speed and accuracy.  If that wasn’t enough he’s also an expert roboticist and strategist. His outer layer of armor is usually composed of Adamantium, rendering him nearly impervious to damage as well.

Joss Whedon is planning to make a few changes for the big screen incarnation of the character. We already know that he will not be created by Ant-Man, but talking to Entertainment Weekly he goes into a bit more detail:

“I knew right away what I wanted to do with him,” Whedon says . “He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch] who’s a witch.” The director adds that he intends to “to ground [the character] while still evoking that guy.”

But it doesn’t seem like he’ll be taking  Ultron’s  rage away:

As a character I love [Ultron], because he’s so pissed off.”

So it won’t just be his origin that gets a little tweaking, what do you guys think?
