Interesting bit of rumour spreading going on in the Doctor Who universe at the minute.
It seems that Blastr has been doing a little detective work and hit upon something potentially very exciting for Who fans. Sophia Myles who portrayed Madame de Pompadour in Moffat’s classic series two epsiode ‘The Girl in the Fireplace’ has apparently been tweeting about her luggage in Spain… so? I hear you ask, well, Doctor Who is currently filming in Spain.
Myles, according to Blastr, ‘was recently interviewed by Doctor Who Magazine star interviewer Benjamin Cook with no mention of when or in what context this interview will appear. The staff of Doctor Who Magazine do appear to know who the next companion will be but are keeping shtum. Steven Moffat has been tweeting quite a lot to Sophia recently and heavily recommending that his followers follow her as well. They’ve been seeming quite pally of late.’
Tie all this into the fact that Myles is scheduled to appear at the Doctor Who convention later this month and it must be asked… wouldn’t that be the perfect time/place to announce the news? But, just to put a slant on the story, will Myles be Madame de Pompadour? She is a firm fan favourite, but the Moff did comment recently that the new companion would be just that: new. Was he being coy or will we see the actress return but as someone else? It is, after all, a Who standard….
