Matty confirms Ghostbuster 6inch line is dead after 2012.

May 19th, 2012 by Marc Comments

Devastating news from Matty – although not entirely surprising at this stage – but the Ghostbusters Classic 6inch line is now officially dead.

The guys at Bring Back The Real Ghostbusters have all the skinny on what’s happening with Matty’s Ghostbusters classic line.
In a statement, Matty brand manager Scott Neitlich  said:  “After we did not receive enough sub holders in 2012, we could not get additional development resources for more figures so we move the most fan demanded figure that was already in development to the SDCC slot. Fans really do vote with their purchase and the sub not selling was a big red flag that we don’t have enough customers for the 6″ GB line right now.”
It seems that, outside of the four GBs – Peter in particular – none of the other figures, even Vigo who was one of Matty’s most requested figures ever, didn’t sell anywhere near what was hoped.
Neitlich continued: “Honestly, had GB sold in the realm of MOTUC or DCU we could talk more figures, but at the end of the day, we just don’t have enough customers to keep the line going. Only the core movie 1 figures sold at the numbers we needed, and really of these, only Peter did well. After that, all figures, including fan demanded figures like Vigo, just did not sell the number of units we needed to produce more figures. We can only make figures when their is a customer base buying them.
Obviously there is a lot of fan anger over the announcement with everything from too many repaints to a $2 price hike being sited as the problem, but according to the guys at, ‘there is some good news; Neitlich has confirmed that Mattel is working on a refund for fans that bought faulty SDCC Stay-Pufts (the soft outer layer has a yellowing issue on some figures) and those fans that held 2012 Club Ecto subscriptions will still get an unannounced exclusive (plus, there’s one more SDCC figure to be announced for this year.)’
But the best bit of news is that Matty is holding on to the license and will look into continuing the props line, after the superb PKE Meter and Ghost-Trap. And if Ghostbusters 3 is ever confirmed we can look forward to a new set of figures. So dead… but not buried.
Scott also said that the subscriber exclusive will not be a figure, but something that will fit nicely into the 6inch line. The rumour mill is going with a terror dog at the minute, but everyone is hoping for the ECTO-1, but even we aren’t THAT deluded.
A sad day for GB fans and collectors.
