Hey, don’t get us wrong, we’re big fans of Chloe Moretz. Her perfomance as Hit Girl is up there with Natalie Portman’s breakout role in Leon. She’s a fantastic actress who has a great future ahead of her, of that we have no doubt.
So, Moretz isn’t our issue with the planned remake of Stephen King’s classic first novel (1974 – how old are we all feeling?) Carrie. Our issue is that it is being remade at all.
Brian DePalma’s 1976 adaptation is still arguably the best version of a King novel to date, but more importantly it is still a powerhouse of a movie, scary, intellegent, beautifully filmed and, in Sissy Spacek, it features one of THE great performances.
We fear that this will be a Scream-esque take on the Carrie mythoolgy now, no doubt filmed for 3D so when that bucket of blood spills and those ornaments start flying we all duck. But it’s seriously unlikely it’ll come close to the original.
Please Hollywood… make it stop.
Anyway, Moretz tweeted this yesterday, confirming her casting. We are happy for you Chloe Moretz, but we wish this wasn’t happening:
Never been so happy in my life! Thank you Kim Pierce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget!
Oh, and they’ll never top THAT ending…
