New images from The Equalizer featuring Denzel Washington and Chloe Moretz

April 23rd, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Following the teaser poster for the upcoming action thriller The Equalizer starring Denzel Washington, a couple more first look photos have emerged online thanks to USA Today.

In addition to  giving us another look at Washington as the titular character, we get our first glimpse at Chloe Grace Moretz, the girl that brings The Equalizer out of retirement. We also see Marton Csokas rocking Russian jail tats which immediately grant badass status.

Talking about Washington’s performance as Robert McCall, The equalizer, director Antoine Fuqua said: “There’s a switch that (Washington) turns on and that’s just scary. There’s a sustained intensity even in casual mode, like a panther. If it’s turned against you, you’re going to be in a bad place.

“His hand-to-hand work is pretty nasty when the monster comes out. We used what was around him. You’d be surprised what he can do with a corkscrew. You’ll never open a bottle of wine the same way again.”

Washington says it was the director and material that attracted him to the movie: “The title doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s the material. It’s a classic story, the innocent girl and the guy coming in to save the day and kick some butt.”

The Equalizer is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter, Olympus Has Fallen) and written by Richard Wenk (The Expendables 3, The Mechanic).

Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

The Equalizer hits theaters on September 26th, 2014 in the US and on October 10th in the UK.
