Pop up to Belfast’s newest film festival

July 26th, 2012 by bash Comments

“Blue Moon” (n) – refers to the third full moon in a season with four full moons, often used to describe something of a rare occurrence”.

It also happens to be the name of Belfast’s newest, brightest pop up film festival.

Following their hosting of a memorable grindcore double bill at Belfast Culture Night last year (Machete & Hobo With A shotgun, anyone?), the shadowy film anoraks of NCC in Co Down have been drafted in by the canny folks at the Dark Horse to curate another memorable weekend mix of cult movies, shorts, documentaries and festival favourites from around the world.

A clever melting pot of movie madness over the 3 nights sees the NCC team screening not 1 but 2 NI premiere’s, exclusive screenings of new movies for the Belfast cognoscenti.

First off on Friday 3 is an all Ireland premiere for the remarkable, funny & moving documentary “Mission to Lars”, the story of one guys road trip against unimaginable odds to meet his hero. & yes, it’s about Metallica.

Saturday 4th sees an exclusive showing of new cult comedy “Some Guy Who Kills People”, executively produced by the original horror comedy don John Landis. Expect splatter and laughs aplenty in this quirky tale of serial killers and ice cream. With a twist.

And finally rounding off the fest on Sunday evening is an undisputed cult classic, and also one of the darkest movies ever committed to celluloid -, from 1986, a rare opportunity to experience David Lynch’s subversive and seminal head melter “Blue Velvet”.

With numerous new and exclusive shorts, Q&A sessions and more cult movie craic to be had than you can shake a clapperboard at, the Blue Moon Film Festival is the most fun you can have in Belfast this summer, sitting down, staring at a wall. A proper old fashioned outdoor setup with fresh popcorn a-plenty, NCC will be hosting the whole event at the back of the Dark Horse, so keep your fingers crossed for dry weather and shimmy on down to join us at Belfast’s 1st Blue Moon Film Festival.

Hi all. I'm Bash and love anything and everything to do with Star Wars. Although I've watched hundreds of movies, read dozens of books and played numerous computer games from other genres and franchises since, nothing has come close to seeing George Lucas' epic for the very first time. I hope you all like the site and come back often.
