The Yellow Fever Independent Film Festival is back in Belfast and this year it is bigger than ever!

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with it’s name, The Yellow Fever Independent Film Festival is THE place for an array of feature and short films with an Asian theme. The event, which is in its fourth year, will be held at the Stormont Hotel, Belfast and it runs from Friday 7th – Sunday 9th September 2012.

We at FTN are co-hosting this event, and, in true FTN fashion we have for you some highlights that have just been announced:

The festival kicks off (literally) on Friday 7th September at 7pm with a welcome speech by George Clarke (Writer and Director of Battle of the Bone), Mike Leeder (Actor in Once Upon a Time in China, City Hunter , Fearless), Albert Pyun (Director of Cyborg, Captain America (1990), Nemesis, Left for Dead) and Cynthia Curnan (Co-Executive Producer on Left for Dead, Writer and Producer on Road to Hell). For fans of Asian cinema, these names will already be etched in their hearts, so this talk will definitely be something special!

This welcome speech will then be followed by two short films: Beach and UnJust; both of which were locally made. The evening is then rounded off with the UK and Irish Premier of Road To Hell and is followed by a Q&A with Albert Pyun and Cynthia Curnan.

It’s an early rise on Saturday 8th September, for there is an action packed day ahead!
With doors opening at 9:30am, the morning events will have a family feel to them as attendees will be able to meet and greet members of The Emerald Garrison (Ireland’s Premier Costuming Club). There will also be signing opportunities with Owen Quinn, locally renowned science fiction author. As if that wasn’t enough to get you excited, Following The Nerd are sponsoring a Special FX Display and Zombie Make-up class with FX team from Splash Area! So all you young and young at heart zombie fans will want to get as many pointers as you can for the Zombie Charity Walk which will take place at Noon followed by a special screening of a zombie film!

The afternoon will then have a special 90 minute discussion panel with George Clarke, Mike Leeder, Albert Pyun and Cynthia Curnan and will be followed by the feature Streetfight, taking us into the evening with four UK and Irish short films. This will climax with the double feature in the evening: a special screening sponsored by Forbidden Planet Belfast of “Captain America” with a LIVE commentary featuring Albert Pyun, Cynthia Curnan and Mike Leeder. This is then followed by a special screening of “Nemesis” which will also feature a LIVE commentary with Albert Pyun, Cynthia Curnan and Mike Leeder.

On Sunday 9th September, the final day of the festival kicks off with an Acting and Directing Workshop hosted by Mike Leeder. This is then followed by an afternoon of short films and a music video entered from countries around the world. In the early evening there will an award ceremony and raffle sponsored by HitFilm followed by the premier of Onus and Splash Area, brought to you by none other than Yellow Fever Productions. The festival will then close, as all great festivals do, with a party!

So there you have it folks, one jam packed weekend of Asian cinema’s finest with a host of guests.

With Day Ticket prices for £12 and weekend passes for £15, this event is really putting the fan first.

But don’t worry if you can’t get to it folks as FTN will be covering the entire weekend bringing you all the latest film news, reviews, pictures, and (if he can be persuaded), Big Phil as a Zombie!
