Ray Fisher joins Batman vs. Superman as Cyborg

April 25th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher 1 Comment

According to Variety, Ray Fisher has joined the cast of Zack Snyder’s Batman vs Superman in the role of Victor Stone, aka Cyborg. The trade adds that the role is not a significant one, but that one that paves the way for future big screen appearances by Cyborg. So basically a cameo. Maybe the events of Man of Steel caused Stone’s injury? Or maybe it happens in Batman vs Superman?

Cyborg made his first appearance in 1980’s DC Comics Presents #26. In the “New 52” continuity, he’s a high school athlete who, after getting caught in a S.T.A.R. Labs explosion, is given powerful bionic abilities that lead to him becoming a founding member of the Justice League.

Professor Hamilton, played by Richard Schiff in Man of Steel was from S.T.A.R. Labs. Back in December Superman himself, Heny Cavill said that he wanted Cyborg on the big screen and added:

“I think he would create an incredible bridge between superheroes and humanity”

You may remember that Fisher’s name was on the rumored shortlist for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII as well. No official word on that yet.

Batman vs. Superman (or whatever) was scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder, with rewrites by Chris Terrio. Snyder is directing. Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in the film, Ben Affleck is Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor, and Jeremy Irons is Alfred Pennyworth. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will also reprise their roles in the sequel. Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto have unknown roles.

It is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6th, 2016.
