Roland Emmerich to direct a new take on alien invasion in Emergence!

June 9th, 2013 by Edwin Torres Jr Comments

Independence Day director Roland Emmerich and his production company have acquired the rights to a new sci-fi alien invasion project called Emergence, Deadline reports. The pitch for the movie comes from Nic Kelman, and Emmerich is attached to direct it.

There’s no information on what the film will be about but, according to Deadline, it is a large scale idea that is a “new take on an alien invasion story containing hot-button science elements.”

They say it’s a new take on an alien invasion story, but I can’t help but think it’s just going to be a repeat of everything that has already been done, landmarks destroyed, explosions, etc. Maybe I’ll be surprised.

My favorite Emmerich film is Independence Day, 2012 was okay for what it was. White House Down looks like it could be fun, but I’m not sure I want fun in a terrorist take over the White House movie. This will probably put on hold the two Independence Day sequels he has in development.
