UPDATE: RUMOR: Is Sarah Gadon the new Mary Jane Watson?

June 20th, 2013 by Edwin Torres Jr Comments

According to Movieweb , Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method , Cosmopolis,) has been cast as Mary Jane Watson in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise, they’ve been told by ” a source very close to the production”. While it was initially reported that Shailene Woodley’s scenes had been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in order to streamline the story of the sequel, later it was reported that Woodley would in fact not return for 2016’s third installment of the franchise. It has been speculated that possible reasons for this is: conflict on a sequel to Divergent 2 ( of which there is no word), or the realization that she was wrong for the role. As Movieweb puts it:

“She appeared to be playing a motorcycle-riding tomboy, and as fans across the Internet were quick to cruelly point out, her look was way off base for the character. Though, her look also seemed to fit perfectly within the lines of this particular reboot.”

The site also says that Gadon was cast before Woodley’s departure, and seeing as there’s still no news on a sequel to Divergent (the reason many believed that Woodley would be unable to return), it now appears that Marc Webb and the studio simply want to go in a different direction with the character.

What do you think of this MJ if the rumor is true?

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 swings into theaters on June 10th, 2016.

UPDATE: According to ET Canada it is confirmed that Gadon is in Amazing Spider-man 3. No confirmation on the role.
