Simon Pegg comes back to Star Wars and appears in The Clone Wars

March 2nd, 2012 by Marc Comments

We were going to post this last night but were so exhausted after the live radio show were just blacked out. Simon Pegg, star of ‘Star Trek’, ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Spaced’, to name a few, will fulfill a life-long dream this weekend by becoming a big part of the Star Wars universe when he voices Dengar in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’.

People will remember Dengar as one of the bountyhunters Darth Vader enlists to track down Luke in The Empire Strikes back. Although he only appeared for a few seconds, the character has now become a fully fleshed out part of the Wars universe. Fact fans should know he’s the one who found Boba Fett after the Sarlaac pit couldn’t digest him and nursed him back to health in the novels. However, like Bossk who also appeared in TESB but has since re-appeared in Clone wars, Dengar will now finally be heard speaking and actually seen kicking some ass. We wonder how long it will be until IG-88, 4-LOM and Zuckuss pop up… but that’s for another day.

So Pegg, who over the last few years has become quite the outspoken Prequel hater, is getting some stick online now for being a turncoat. However, this is far from the truth. Pegg is a passionate fan, hence his real hatred of the Prequels, and since Clone Wars is repairing the damage (some say) they did, all he is doing is embracing it again. And we salute him for it.

Speaking to EW, Pegg said: “Dengar is one of the elite. If you’re on Darth Vader’s bounty-hunter speed dial, you are the best in the galaxy.”  Truer words were never spoken.

FTN favourite Dave Filoni, supervising director of Clone Wars, said on his Facebook page: “I’m really excited to have Simon Pegg as a guest voice on The Clone Wars. Simon’s a passionate fan who can talk Star Wars for hours, and he cleared some time on his busy schedule to beam over from the final frontier into our universe.”

Airing tonight in the US, the episode he appears in is called Bounty and tantilisingly the synopsis reads: Dengar teams up with Boba Fett, Bossk, and bounty-hunter newbie Asajj Ventress to protect a valuable shipment being sent through the interior of a planet via hover rail. Of course, forces conspire to pry this precious cargo from their greedy fingers.

Consider us excited to see yet another classic character being given a new lease of life in out favourite show on TV.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
