A few months ago, I came across an awesome sci-fi short film, called R’ha. I wasn’t at FTN at the time so I could never had shared it with you. It seems I wasn’t the only one to love it, Star Wars producer Rick McCallum is going to develop the project as a feature film. It will be his first sci-fi film project since working with George Lucas. Star Wars: Clone Wars producer Steve Tzirlin will produce the film with him.
I loved the short, and it has potential for a great movie. The story follows an alien from a race called the R’ha, who defend a cluster of solar systems from a menacing attack. The short features an alien creature being interrogated and tortured by some form of robotic artificial intelligence.
The director of the short, Kaleb Lechowski, will also direct the film from a script written by Matthew Graham ( Life on Mars). McCullum revealed in a statement what attracted him to the project:
“What inspires me and our team is that there are no humans whatsoever in the film, and yet Kaleb has come up with a world that is so engaging and so alive and so real that it really is very different from anything else I have seen in the sci-fi world.”
