The full lineup for Auto Assembly 2012: The UK’s biggest Transformers convention

July 17th, 2012 by Marc Comments

Hi everyone,
With Auto Assembly 2012 just 18 days away, it’s time for another update to bring you all the latest developments on what is happening and a few more bits of news…
Friday Night Movie Screening
For the last few years we’ve traditionally had a showing of the 1986 animated Transformers movie as part of the weekend programme at the convention. Fans have found that there has been nothing better than watching this classic film amongst a group of other fans but this year we’re doing something very special…
On the Friday evening we will be holding a special presentation of the animated Transformers movie which will be preceded by a short introduction by G1 voice actor Paul Eiding. Paul will then be joining us to watch the movie and he will then take to the stage for a short Q&A session afterwards to answer any questions that our attendees may have about the film and his work on it! This is a fantastic opportunity for our attendees to watch what is arguably the best of all of the Transformers movies alongside one of its cast members in the friendly relaxed atmosphere that only Auto Assembly can offer.
Remember that the Friday night programme is ONLY for those of you who have a weekend ticket for the convention so if you only got a one-day pass you won’t be able to join us for this special event. If you have a one day ticket and want to upgrade your pass, then please get in touch with us as soon as possible! Don’t forget that we have different Q&A Panels and workshops on each day of the convention and you won’t get entered into our big prize draw either so do you really want to miss out?
Fan Sales Table
For those of you who have unwanted toys, comics or other Transformers merchandise that you want to get rid of, then you’ll be pleased to know that the Auto Assembly Fan Sales Table is coming back! You’ll be able to bring along your unwanted items, drop them off on a special dealers table run by our team and we’ll sell them on your behalf for a small 10% commission that will go to the convention. We’ll be uploading more information and a form that you’ll need to complete and bring with you to the convention along with your items in the next couple of days so start sorting through those cupboards!
Kitbash / Custom Competition
Auto Assembly 2012 is less than three weeks away and after much anticipation we can now reveal all of the details for another exciting new feature at Auto Assembly 2012 – our new and improved Custom Competition.
This is an excellent chance for kit-bashers of all ages to show off their customising skills, whether repaints or scratch-builds, homages or new designs, all are welcome to partake in this competition.
The Competition is split into two sections: The advanced competition is Sponsored by Calloway Customs, who will be providing the very hard to find TFCC exclusive Runamuck figure as first prize for “Best Custom of the Show”, second and third place will be acknowledged with small prizes to be announced. The advanced competition is open to anyone over the age of 14.
We also have special prizes going for our “Future Custom Champion” winner, in the form of PRID Bumblebee toys for the top three child entries (under 13′s only, must be child’s own work, entrance form must be filled out by parent), with thanks to our sponsor Kapow Toys.
Customs must be registered Saturday morning at the Calloway Customs booth, these will be stored in a protective display cabinet for protection (space permitting). These will be judged throughout the day by our panel of star judges, with the winner announced Saturday evening, during the party in the King’s Suite.
Artist Sketches
There seems to have been some confusion about the statement we made in our Attendee Information pack regarding the limits we are setting this year for the number of sketches that we are allowing attendees to get from our artists who will be at the convention this year.
What our official stance is regarding sketches with our artists is a general guideline to limit attendees to one sketch per attendee per guest meaning that you will be able to get a sketch from all of our artists. If any of our artists are able to do more then this will be at their discretion, but for our busier artists, this isn’t going to be possible.
Auto Assembly 2013
While Auto Assembly 2012 is only a couple of weeks away we know that many of you like to plan ahead which is why we have decided to announce details of Auto Assembly 2013 and open bookings for next year’s convention NOW! It’s set to be another rip-roaring year and we’ve been waiting for months to be able to reveal the details to you about the convention and now we can tell you some of the great things we have in store…
Obviously, you’ll want to know the essentials and it’s going to be taking place over the weekend of Friday 9th August to Sunday 11th August 2013 and will be held, once again at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, Birmingham which is our new home for Auto Assembly.
Sadly, we have had to raise our ticket prices for Auto Assembly 2013 because a lot of our costs have risen considerably over the last couple of years and while we have tried to absorb as many of these as we could we have reached the point where this is no longer possible. As such, Adult weekend tickets will be £50, Youth and Elderly weekend passes will be £38 and Partner weekend passes will be £40. Accommodation in the Hilton will be £51.50 for a single or £62 for a twin or double room per night inclusive of breakfast!
Dealers Tables are also going to be slightly more expensive for 2013 but we believe that these also still represent fantastic value for money and these are available for just £120 each for the weekend and that includes two staff passes.
We know that a lot of you love to book early for Auto Assembly and we hope that Auto Assembly 2013 will be no exception. Because of this, we are giving you the chance to book your tickets for Auto Assembly 2013 at a discount rate for a limited period where will be FREEZING prices at the Auto Assembly 2012 rate! To take advantage of this offer, you will need to book your tickets by no later than 31st August 2012. This is a great way to guarantee your tickets for next year’s convention and know that all you have to do after that is sort out travel and spending money that you have an entire year to do!
There’s a link on the website now for you to be able to book your tickets!
Pass For Life
The Passes For Life, which we mentioned in our last update, are selling at a fantastic rate. To recap these briefly, you can get a lifetime pass for the convention for just £150 that will get you into every Auto Assembly from now on. This won’t just cover you for Auto Assembly 2013, but 2014, 2015 and beyond. As we have said, 2013 bookings are open now, we already have the date set for Auto Assembly 2014 (and we’re in talks with guests already), and we’re making plans for 2015 and 2016 so Auto Assembly is going to be around for a long time to come…
If you’re interested, you can download the application form here:-
And if you’re interested in making a long term commitment to us as a dealer, the form also covers our similar scheme for dealers tables but you need to hurry as these are very limited!
Refunds Policy
We know that a few of you have been in touch with us about refunds for this year’s convention as you’re not able to make it this year. We haven’t been able to send out the Refund Application Form to you yet because we have been waiting to be able to confirm the date for Auto Assembly 2013 before we could do anything about this but we will be sending out these forms to all of you now in the next 24 hours.
Anyway, no doubt we’ll be back with more news and updates on the convention over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned… we still have more great things to announce so keep your eyes peeled!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
