The Hobbit sequels are wrapping up additional filming

May 21st, 2013 by Edwin Torres Jr Comments

Director  Peter Jackson revealed via his Facebook page that additional filming on The Hobbit sequels has begun in New Zealand. He also posted a photo of himself and Ian McKellen’s Gandalf on the set:

Back on set for our last Hobbit pick ups. Our last ever Tolkien pick ups, in fact. It’s going to be an intense few weeks, but we’re looking forward to shooting some powerful scenes with our great cast. Our next blog is coming soon!

The additional filming is because of the decision to extend The Hobbit from two films to three.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters December 13, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be with us December 17, 2014.
