The Munsters remake will be ‘way darker’

Eddie Izzard has said that his reboot of classic show The Munsters will not be a straight out comedy like the original.

Speaking to Vulture, the British comedian said the programme, to be titled Mockingbird Lane and aired on NBC, would be “way darker” than people expect.

“If you know where The Addams Family went from a sitcom to a romantic comedy [when it was remade], ours is going to [change] even more so – but in a different place,” he said.

Deadline recently reported that Izzard was the first to be cast in the pilot, which will be written by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) and directed by Bryan Singer (Superman Returns).

The actor will play Grandpa, the patriarch of the family, a charming and womanising vampire who can shapeshift into rats, wolves and other creatures.
