For those of you who follow FTN you’ll know that I am a huge Queen fan. So it’s great to hear that a director is being attached to the forthcoming biopic about frontman Freddie Mercury.
Variety are reporting that Stephen Frears could helm the film with a screenplay by Peter Morgan along with Stephen J. Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson. Frears and Morgan, ironically, worked on The Queen a number of years back.
The film will cover the formative years of Queen, leading up to their appearance at Live Aid in 1985. Mercury died just six years later from complications with AIDS, although that won’t be the focus of the film.
GK Films’ Graham King will produce in partnership with Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal’s Tribeca Productions and Queen Films.
Sacha Baron Cohen is attached to play the Zanzibar born singer.
