TV Reviews: FTN Reviews The Season Finale of Power Rangers Super Megaforce: Legendary Battle

00-Legendary-Battle

It’s been roughly two years in the making, a promise was made in the first episode of Power Rangers Megaforce, a promise of a Legendary Battle featuring EVERY Power Ranger ever. Now, after long hiatuses and numerous teases, it has arrived. But is it everything we hoped it would be?

The simple answer is no, but I’ll be darned if it didn’t make me tear up and geek out a little.

“Legendary Battle” was the true ending to the Megaforce saga, and on the whole it was a good ending. But for those like me who wanted to see an epic clash between Rangers and robots, you’re going to be disappointed. Mainly because the true Legendary Battle was only a couple of minutes long, and it honestly focused more on the current Rangers than the past ones. For me, this is sad because not only could they have showed all of the past generations of Rangers one more time to show the legacy of the series, they could’ve showcased the past Rangers who came back to wield the power one more time. Including some of my favorite Rangers like Leo, Carter, TJ, and of course Tommy. That’s the real funny thing, though Tommy had the most lines of all the returning Rangers, he didn’t get shown in the fight scene!

That’s the other thing, the final fight was impossibly short. And by that I mean even with EVERY Ranger, there’s no way they would’ve tore through the enemy army that quickly. If they gave this an extra 5 minutes it would’ve pleased many a fanboy and fangirl. Instead it felt rushed.

On the good side though, I’ll be happy to say I was surprised that the Legendary Rangers didn’t just show up for the final battle. Seeing them help other people that needed it was awesome, albeit cheesy at spots. Carter and Dana’s spot was easily the best for me, as I loved Lightspeed Rescue. They honestly didn’t have to do that, show the Rangers helping others, they’ve could’ve have them just appear in the battle. But by doing this, they showed WHY they were Rangers in the first place, they want to help those who need it.

Of course, there’s still the actual Megaforce team I haven’t talked about yet. I was curious as to how certain parts of the episode would be handled. Specifically the armada and the emperor. Both were handled in true Power Rangers style, quick, simple, and to the point. And the Rangers at the end got a true happy ending, so that’s enough to bring a smile to my face.

Legendary battle

So where does that leave “Legendary Battle”? Well, as a fan, I was both thrilled and let down by this episode. Again, seeing my favorite Rangers again was awesome. Especially when they did the helmet reveals to show who came back. I love that they felt so connected to what they did that they came back for what was essentially an anniversary episode. However, after all the teasing, and promoting, the battle just wasn’t we wanted. The buildup was all there, but the result just left us wanting more.

In the end, you’ll judge “Legendary Battle” based on your feelings for Power Rangers in general. I’ve watched this series since episode one in Mighty Morphin, and to see every Ranger there, and KNOW every Ranger that was there, showed me that I was apart of something truly special. Was it as legendary as they promised? No. But it was special, and something I will treasure.

So as Power Rangers now heads into a new series with new Rangers, I can’t help but look forward to it. I love this series, and I will watch it for as long as I am able. And to quote the 500th episode of Power Rangers (that was in Dino Thunder if you forgot!)
