Two Marvel movies a year? Is Jessica Chastain out of Iron Man 3 but in… somewhere else? Let’s speculate.

May 15th, 2012 by Marc Comments

Last week, it was reported that Jessica Chastain was joining Guy Pierce and Ben Kingsley in the cast of Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, playing a character called Dr. Aldrich Killian as part of the Exremis storyline, it was even covered on FTN.
Now it seems that whoever originally put out the press release may have prematurely jumped the gun, as per this posting of Chastain’s on her facebook page on 6th May:
“Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I’m so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel film in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful. I’m very excited to see the film when it comes out. xx”
The part appears to have subsequently been filled with Rebecca Hall (The Town) being cast in the role.
We could just be reading too much into this, as well as doing some really bad math by adding 1 & 1 together to get 3, but there’s been further (possibly related) developments on the Marvel movies scene from Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige during an interview today with Bloomberg:
“We want to do two films a year. ‘Avengers’ is our only film this year, but in a week and a half we begin filming ‘Iron Man 3.’ By the end of the summer we’ll be working on the next Thor film, early next year the next Captain America’ film, Feige said. “Those are the three we’ve announced so far; we’ve got two beyond that that we haven’t announced yet, but we’re working on.”
Putting these two statements together, and this is purely speculation, could this mean that given her busy schedule and commitments that prevented her from taking the IM3 role, could Chastain have already been approached for something else a bit further down the line when she’s not so booked? And if so, would she make a good Wasp, Hellcat or Scarlet Witch to introduce a new character and join the cast of the second Avengers movie?
What Marvel caracters do you think she could be good casting for?
