Unexpected Journey to be shortest Middle Earth film yet

Peter Jackson has spoken to Empire Magazine about the forthcoming Hobbit movie, An Unexpected Journey.

The director wasn’t giving much away but did confirm that the film will come in with a running time of 2 hours and 40 minutes.

He said: “It’s looking like it’s going to be about ten minutes shorter than Fellowship was. So it’s going to be officially our shortest Middle-earth yet. I mean, Fellowship was just under three hours and this is about 2 hours 40 minutes at the moment.”

However, the New Zealander said that some effects shots remain to be finalised which could alter the time once again.

Empire also revealed five new publicity images from the film, one of which is above.

Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis and many more star in the December 14 release.

Hi all. I'm Bash, I'm 33, and I became a nerd when I first saw Star Wars as a child. Although I've watched hundreds of movies, read dozens of books and played numerous computer games since, nothing has come close to seeing George Lucas' epic for the very first time. At Following the Nerd, I'm Marc's right hand man and can be heard every Thursday trying to be funny on our radio show. I hope you all like the site and come back often.
