Here’s another TV spot for Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim called Monsters. The director also recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about sequel ideas:
“[With the old Godzilla movies] it was Godzilla versus so-and-so, and that was all you needed to know It was like a wrestling match. They [Kaiju] are a race of blind consumers grabbing planets, consuming them, and moving to the next. The idea [with the sequel] is to explore a little bit of that. I won’t spoil it, but I don’t think we’ll repeat a single beat from the first movie.”
Del Toro is currently co-writing the sequel with Travis Beachman, but he tells us not to expect it to happen anytime soon.
“It will take us a while to develop. I don’t think the screenplay will come out so quick. It took us a year and a half to do this script, and it’ll take us at least two years to develop the other script.”
Del Toro is open to come back and direct the sequel, but it’s not a done deal yet. The man is high in demand.
“When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.”
The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke and Diego Klattenhoff.
Get ready to cancel the apocalypse on July 12th in 3D, IMAX 3D and 2D
